Our treatments get to the root of the problem without using harmful medications or invasive procedures. Our chiropractor may perform an all-natural spinal decompression treatment to reduce your pain and promote healing.

Spinal Decompression Definition

Spinal decompression is a procedure that reduces pressure on the spine without the use of surgery. Spinal decompression consists of our chiropractor placing you on a traction table. You'll be connected to a series of slings, pulleys, and ropes operated by a motor. The device pulls your spine, which has the potential to take pressure off of the discs in between the vertebrae in your spine. Basically, spinal decompression elongates your spine. It helps relieve pain caused by disc issues because it takes the pressure off of them. Blood will flow more effectively throughout your spine, which has the potential to bring extra nutrients to the area to promote healing. The treatment has the potential to realign the bones and discs of the spine, too.

When you come in for an appointment at our chiropractic clinic in Cumming, GA, you can expect your spinal decompression treatment to take approximately 15 minutes. Usually, you'll have a few treatments per week and will require several weeks’ worth of sessions. The number of treatments per week and how many weeks you'll need treatment varies based on your condition, which we'll discuss with you during your initial consultation.

Conditions We Treat With Spinal Decompression

If you have a herniated disc, meaning you have a condition that occurs when there's a tear in the outer area of the disc, you can benefit from spinal decompression. Because the contents of the disc will seep out through the disc's "shell," it can irritate the nerves surrounding it. When it affects the nerves, it has the potential to cause weakness, tingling, and numbness that can radiate down an arm or leg. You might experience pain as well, but the spinal decompression takes pressure off of the injured disc and allows it to heal. As it heals, it won't irritate the nerves.

Degenerative disc disease describes the changes that occur in the discs as a result of the natural aging process. Unfortunately, these changes have the potential to cause pain and discomfort. When our chiropractor uses spinal decompression as part of your treatment regimen, it takes pressure off of the degenerative discs in order to decrease your pain.

Whether you're a pregnant woman or have sciatica as a result of a nerve injury, spinal decompression can ease your discomfort. When your spine is stretched during decompression therapy, it takes pressure off of the sciatic nerve, which relieves symptoms caused nerve compressions such as pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness.
